Yes, rereading the whole of "Clarissa" would be asking a lot of anyone. I read it many years ago, and neither have nor intend to reread it (luckily we have what Innes didn't, Google, to shortcircuit that need). Although I think Innes' slip a little more delinquent than you do: Clarissa's relationship to her coffin is more positive, more about "awe", than it is about dreading death. In fact she doesn't dread death: she welcomes it.
