Yes, I should perhaps have made it clear in my post what seems to me obvious, that Shakespeare would have had no idea about any of these notional etymologies of the name: and that 'small ham', and his son's name (both Hamlet and Hamnet were fairly common Elizabethan names, it seems) are more likely to have fed-in.
