Well, I don't say "he or she" in this post, amusing though Lancaster is. I like "s/he" which combines a kind of hushing with a little giggle, and at least notates that various genders exist, which "they" elides. In my experience, pace Lancaster, women don't say "they". Your experience may differ, of course. In much of my writing I use, simply, "she", and perhaps should have done so here. But, at the last minute, I remembered that males also exist, and corrected myself.
