Thank you, Vicky, for these heartening words. I think one reason I gave up halfway through a decade ago, was that it didn't seem to be any interest in such a project. But you're right: Hugo is magnificent, and deserves wider recognition and engagement. And what you say about "ambitious poetry translation" as a project for scholars at a particular stage in their career is very interesting. It would be hubristic to compare myself to Sayers (whose Dante I recently reread, actually: it's superb) -- but as an inspiration!
